Expedia may be one of the best travel booking sites, but booking websites are competitive for a reason; it seems there is always a place to find a better deal. If booking a place to stay with Expedia leads to more jet lag than enjoyment, here are 9 other popular sites like Expedia you can try.

1. Price Line
Priceline, one of Expedia's competitors, is as famous for its celebrity spokespersons (notably Star Trek actor William Shatner) as it is for its uniqueness as an Expedia alternative. Priceline, dubbed "the eBay of travel booking websites," allows users to bid on some travel accommodation bookings, which can result in even bigger discounts than usual. Also, the signature "Name Your Own Price" program lets you book travel accommodations based on how much you're willing to pay for it. Be careful though... since accommodation companies don't want them to advertise below the retail rates, you won't be able to see some details of your properties until you've booked them if you're using 'Set your own price'.
Make sure you check outour free course on how to use Pricelineif you want to know more information.
Orbitz is a site very similar to Expedia in that it allows the booking of travel accommodations such as airline flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, and vacation packages. Like Expedia, Orbitz has a rewards program that earns you "Orbucks" (local currency), which you can then use towards the price of hotel bookings. Orbitz also has a price guarantee system, so if you find a better price elsewhere for the same property, tell Orbitz and they'll give you Orbucks equal to the price difference, plus a little extra! Orbitz also stands out for its relatively good customer service, despite being part of an industry often maligned for its lack of support in this area.
3. Turn key
FlipKey, associated with TripAdvisor, is a website where you can rent properties from owners, meaning you book directly with the person who owns the property. By using this method of booking, you can usually save a lot of money compared to the traditional method of booking at hotels. FlipKey has over 30,000 property listings in 1100 cities around the world - so there is sure to be something for every travel need. They even offer 5000 booking offers per day, so you can save some money with your bookings.
FlipKey also takes security very seriously compared to other property booking websites as they make an effort to verify the identity of each property owner. FlipKey staff takes extra steps to ensure no fraud occurs, so you don't take any chances when choosing a property and can book with confidence.
If you're not a very picky traveler and just want to save as much money as possible on your travel accommodations, try Hotwire. This is one of the websites like Expedia that many travel companies turn to when they try to sell their bookings at any price to avoid making a total loss. This means you can get accommodation for extremely low prices, but the downside is that you won't know some of the details of what you're booking until after you're done and you can't cancel your booking. This means you may need to do a little more research and planning than usual if you're going to use Hotwire. Either you just have to be lucky, or - as we said - don't be a nitpick when it comes to travel.
Booking.com is a competitor of Expedia that has become quite popular lately. While it only focuses on hotel bookings (and not flights, car rentals or cruises), it has a much larger selection of those, partnering with over 650,000 properties worldwide. It offers an interface in more than 41 languages, no booking fees for accommodations you reserve, an easy-to-use self-service customer service for changing booking details, and free cancellation for most rooms. Plus, if you create an account on Booking.com and subscribe to their newsletters, you might be able to find even better deals! Booking.com also allows you to book non-hotel accommodations for rent such as apartments, villas, bed & breakfasts and more through its main site and sister site Villas.com.
As you might guess from the name, Hotels.com focuses on finding hotels in cities around the world. If you don't need the big vacation package, but just want a deal on a hotel stay, Hotels.com has you covered. Hotels.com also has a rewards program that offers its users additional discounts and offers, as well as one free night at a hotel for every ten nights you book with Hotels.com.
Another alternative to Expedia, Trivago aims to show its users the lowest prices for travel, but they do this by aggregating the offers from all the major booking websites. Trivago compares the prices of these sites, even if they're not the lowest, in case you can find a price close to a website you know and enjoy using. You can easily filter every aspect of your search, so if you don't want to sift through all the sites for the best deals, you can use Trivago to curate them and then sort them.
TripAdvisor is another great alternative to Expedia, although it started out as a review website where you could search for accommodations you wanted to book and research everything about them. The reviews come from people who have actually stayed at the locations and include information such as when and how long they stayed, which rooms they stayed in, who they traveled with, what activities they did and much more. They rate every aspect of their stay and leave free-form comments so you know exactly what the place is like - before you spend the money.
Now TripAdvisor has evolved into a booking website in its own right, partnering with many other travel websites (including those in this article!) to help you find great deals on places you're interested in. If you've done all your research on TripAdvisor, you can also see which of the popular booking sites currently have the lowest prices and book directly on TripAdvisor. And if you want to know more, be sure to give our free coursehow to use TripAdvisora reading.
